Characters are the only unit

Tokens are shown, characters are billed

Every plan and every currency prices the character count you send. The dashboard also reports the tokens the engine used, per request and per day, so the effort behind a translation stays visible — but tokens never appear on an invoice.

How characters and tokens relate

faq

Before you pay

What exactly counts as a character?

Every Unicode code point in the text you send: letters, spaces, line breaks and any HTML or XML markup. The X-Characters-Billed header on each response repeats the number we metered.

Can I try it without paying?

Yes. Confirming your e-mail address puts 100,000 characters on the account, no card required, and they stay valid for as long as the account exists.

When does prepaid credit expire?

Twelve months after the top-up that created it. Thirty days before any part of it lapses, you get an e-mail.

What if I go past the included volume?

Anything above the plan allowance is metered in blocks of 100,000 characters at the plan’s overage rate and billed when the period closes. A spending cap is optional; once it is hit, the API returns 402 instead of translating.

Can the billing currency change later?

The currency is set by your first payment and then stays fixed, because credit, price lists and invoices are all kept in it. If you need to switch, support can move the account.

How does cancelling work?

One click in the dashboard, taking effect when the current period ends. Your data remains accessible for ninety days afterwards.
